For as long as people have done HPLC, they have used the same column format, the same method of attaching the column to the HPLC, and they have experienced the same problems:

  • Clogging at the tube-column junction
  • Leakage around the high pressure solvent connections
  • Installation problems with tubing to achieve zero dead volume
  • Selecting the proper tube length and ID
  • Sorting through many available high pressure fittings

To address these issues, a new column design was developed. This column and corresponding adapter entirely eliminate the need for any high-pressure fittings or tubing as well as minimizing all possible dead volumes. Furthermore, if a leak ever occurs in the high-pressure column inlet, the mobile phase is contained within the column adapter (no external leakage).

You need to install a column adapter once on your HPLC. Then, without any tools, you can install a column which never leaks. It is easy to replace and can be changed in seconds. The column hardware was designed specifically to be used in any HPLC instrument. It can be installed in most column heaters as well.

Newcrom R1 columns are available in all standard dimensions

Column IDs: 22 mm, 10 mm, 4.6 mm, 3.2 mm, 2.1 mm
Column Lengths: 250, 150, 100, 50, 25, 10 mm
Particles: 5 µm and 3 µm
Pores: 100 A

This column is available in two hardware versions: traditional two ended and new SIELC hardware with only one end.

Newcrom R1 stationary phase is generally stable at basic pH values
Recommended pH is from 1.0 to 10.0
Newcrom C18 pH range
As an example, we performed a test where the column was operated at pH 10.6, injecting a model mixture of a neutral, basic, and acidic compounds. This experiment took over 15 hrs and after almost 200 injections, no significant loss or changes of retention were observed.
However, despite the fact that this stationary phase is stable at high pH, it is recommended for column storage to use an acidic mobile phase. A mobile phase composition with 0.1% phosphoric or formic acid in 50/50 mixture of MeCN/H2O should be an ideal long and short term storage solution.
